After most of the region saw some snow showers looking ahead into the start of the work week, we will keep the chance of snow showers into the forecast looking ahead into Tuesday,
Some of the high-resolution data on Tuesday Morning is showing that lake effect snow bands will set up between the I-96 and I-94 corridors through most of the day on Tuesday. These bands could be locally intense, and drop snow in a short period of time, therefore, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the central portions of the viewing area through 2:00 PM Tuesday Afternoon. These snow bands could reduce visibility in a short period of time and produce snow accumulations also in a short period of time. 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible through Tuesday Afternoon in the Winter Weather Advisory in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw & Wayne Counties. Outside of that, expect up to an inch of snow accumulation.
Another arctic blast moves in looking ahead into the middle of next week, with highs on Tuesday into the lower 20s and overnight lows into the low teens and single digits, we will see a gradual warm-up looking ahead into the end of next week. The snow showers will wind down by Tuesday night, and will keep a few flakes into the forecast on Wednesday otherwise expect plenty of cloud cover.
As we watch another front roll through the region by Thursday, we will bring the chance of snow showers back to the region for the day on Thursday. High temperatures warming up a bit, into the lower 30s by the afternoon.
Then, we will dry things out for Friday, but keep the cloud cover around, and then a chance of rain and snow showers moves into the region for the start of the weekend on Saturday. We’ll watch an area of low pressure move south of the region, and with enough cold air in place and high temperatures just above the freezing mark, we will hold onto the chance of some rain and snow showers.
Cloud cover sticks around for the end of the weekend on Sunday, but then we go back into the freezer again. High temperatures will drop into the middle 20s by Sunday afternoon.
Looking ahead into early next week, it looks like we could see some of the coldest air we have seen yet this winter moving into the region. Most major model data is showing that the cold outbreak will move in late Sunday into Monday, then stick around into Wednesday. If this happens, we could see high temperatures into the single digits and lower teens, with overnight lows into the single digits to potentially below zero. Once you factor in the wind, wind chills could go well below zero making this a dangerously cold outbreak. We will continue to track this as we work through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
