4Warn Weather – The polar vortex brings Metro Detroit its coldest air in years!

Now is the time to ensure your furnace is working properly, your windows are sealed, and take care of those winter home projects you might have been putting off.

The polar vortex will bring the coldest air we have seen in at least two years to the Great Lakes all the way down to Florida.

Wind chills early next week will be as low as -20 or greater. Extreme cold will last several days.

Friday

But first, the sun will make a rare appearance on Friday. Though clouds will also be around, even a glimpse of the sun will be a welcome sight.

Highs Friday near normal in the low 30s, but wind chills remain in the teens.

Weekend forecast

Friday night into Saturday gets a little interesting. At this point, it’s looking like a mostly snow event, which would put most of the area at 1-3”.

The only snag would be if a little drizzle mixes in early Saturday morning and reduces those totals by a hair.

Overall plan for a snowy, cold day with falling temps by the Detroit Lions tailgate.
