DETROIT – There’s a chance of light snow and a wintry mix this weekend in Southeast Michigan.
Rest of Friday
It’s a fantastic Friday in February. With lots of sunshine, temperatures will peak in the mid 20s to 30 degrees. The cooler temperatures will be north of Detroit. Westerly winds will be at 5 to 15 mph.
Friday night will become cloudy. Temperatures will range from the upper teens to the lower 20s.
Saturday
Light snow and a wintry mix will affect parts of Southeast Michigan on Saturday afternoon and evening.
The accumulations will be low, but any wintry weather could result in slippery roads and sidewalks. The current forecast puts snow totals anywhere from a dusting to around an inch in Metro Detroit.
Isolated totals could reach 2 inches, particularly in the Thumb, where there will be a longer duration of snow. Snowfall totals will increase north of Saginaw.
The snow totals have been revised to account for the potential of sleet and breaks in precipitation.
The expectation of lesser impact allows us to lift the 4Warn Weather Alert, which was previously declared for Saturday evening.
Similar to a traffic jam, train at a railroad crossing, or detour changing your drive experience or arrival time, there are atmospheric forces along the journey that could shift the system or reduce moisture. This would influence snowfall totals.
The low-pressure system, which was still over the Rockies on Friday afternoon, will race toward the Great Lakes for Saturday’s arrival. The snow and wintry mix is expected to begin in Metro Detroit during Saturday afternoon and end before midnight.
Saturday’s highs will be in the mid-20s in the Thumb and upper 20s to 30 degrees in Metro Detroit. Lows will be in the lower 20s for most of Southeast Michigan.
Sunday
Sunday will bring mostly cloudy conditions and the chance of a few flurries. Highs will be around 30 degrees.
Next week
The workweek will be colder than normal. Highs will be in the 20s, and lows will fall to the single digits and teens.
