DETROIT – A winter storm is expected to bring 4-7 inches of snow to Metro Detroit Wednesday and Thursday.
Most of the area is under a winter storm watch, but that’s likely to be upgraded to a winter weather advisory or winter storm warning.
We’re expecting 4-7 inches of snow, in total, but amounts could be swayed by trends in the forecast track of this storm system.
Here’s a rough timeline of what to expect.
1 p.m. Wednesday: Winter storm watch begins
A winter storm watch is currently in effect for almost all of Southeast Michigan -- Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, Lapeer, St. Clair, Genesee, and Sanliac counties.
Again, the 4Warn Weather team is expecting the watch to be upgraded to an advisory or a warning. Stay with Local 4 for an update as soon as any alerts are issued.
3 p.m. Wednesday: Snow starts
Snow could start as early as 3 p.m. Wednesday, though that’s not when we expect it to be heavy.
7 p.m. Wednesday: Heavier snowfall begins
The more impactful, heavier snow is expected to push through around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Heaviest amounts appear to be north of M-59. Lower amounts will likely be closer to the Ohio border, as a wintry mix cuts into actual snow totals.
1 a.m. Thursday: Heavier snowfall ends
The heaviest of the snow is probably going to end around 1 a.m. Thursday.
7 a.m. Thursday: Winter storm watch ends
The winter storm watch is currently scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. Thursday.
