Old man winter is hanging on tight, and potentially bringing us our biggest snowfall of the season.
It’s in the form of snow, a wintry mix, and widespread and at times heavy snow throughout the weekend.
Friday
It starts tonight as snow showers move in around midnight. The snow that falls overnight will be scattered in coverage, and will likely give us a light accumulation. Temperatures overnight drop into the teens so it’s again a cold night ahead.
Saturday
Saturday things get a little interesting as warmer air tries to move in, and could give us a bit of a wintry mix. The latest high-resolution data suggests most everyone gets a bit of a wintry mix, but areas along and north of M-59 will likely stay as snow. This continues through the day, and into the overnight as well. Areas further north that get snow could see a couple of inches of snow through the day.
Sunday
By Sunday morning we’re waking up to falling temperatures, and precipitation all changing over to snow. And a heavy snow it will be! Widespread heavy snow falls in the morning on Sunday, and this adds up and adds up quickly. By lunchtime, it starts to taper down but will continue to fall through the day, but more scattered in coverage.
This Sunday snow adds up. With a wide range of totals. Areas further south towards the Ohio state line may only see a couple of inches, but areas closer to the thumb could see over 10″! Most of metro Detroit will be in the 4″-8″ range.
Following the weekend mess, some bitterly cold air returns next week. Highs the first half of the next work-week are in the teens, with lows in single digits. Factor in some gusty winds and wind chills will be well below zero early next week.
