Metro Detroit is expected to get its first snowfall of the season this week.
When will snow arrive in Metro Detroit?
Some areas of Metro Detroit may see a few snowflakes after sunset Wednesday evening.
Scattered snow showers are expected to be more widespread throughout the area early Thursday morning, arriving from 3 to 4 a.m.
Drivers should give themselves extra time for their morning commutes as the roads may be slick.
This will be a wet snow, which will melt due to surface temperatures being in the 40s and because the ground is not frozen.
The snow will persist into midday in scattered pockets.
Widespread rain will develop this afternoon across Southeast Michigan as a low pressure system develops over the region. How much snow is expected in Metro Detroit?
About an inch of snow is possible west of U.S. 23, with a half-inch possible for Jackson.
Most of Southeast Michigan will see less than an inch, according to the National Weather Service.
Metro Detroiters probably won’t need to pull their shovels out, as this snow isn’t expected to stick.
Residents also shouldn’t be alarmed about the snow, as a big storm isn’t expected, but people should just be aware that the timing of this first snowfall of the season could impact their morning commutes.
