4Warn Weather – Metro Detroit must brace for more cold air before temperatures start to rise over the weekend.
As Lions (and Packers) fans hang out Thursday evening, temperatures will be in the 20s with wind chills in the teens in Detroit. Snow showers and gusty winds will diminish, but it will still be breezy.
Nighttime winds will be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph. Most of Metro Detroit’s temperatures will fall into the 15- to 20-degree range overnight, but wind chill values will be in the single digits to about 10 degrees.
Friday
Friday morning will be cold. Remember to dress warmly. As people head to school and work, temperatures will be in the teens to 20 degrees. It will feel like it is in the single digits in many spots.
The skies will be partly cloudy in the morning, but clouds will increase with the chance of a few flurries in the afternoon. Winds will be out of the west-southwest at 5 to 15 mph.
Friday night, clouds will decrease again as temperatures fall into the lower 20s in Metro Detroit. Temperatures will fall into the teens in the Irish Hills and Thumb.
This Weekend
Warmer air will arrive over the weekend.
Saturday will be mostly cloudy, but the Thumb will have a chance of snow showers in the morning and afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-30s, and lows will be around 30 degrees.
Sunday will be a great day for errands and outdoor activities. Temperatures will warm into the mid 40s, which is slightly above normal and the warmest since the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Apart from being mild, skies will be partly cloudy. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s.
Monday
Southeast Michigan will see temperatures in the upper 40s to 50 degrees on Monday. Metro Detroit’s average high for Dec. 9 is 39 degrees. The warmth will come with rain ahead of an advancing cold front from the west. Lows will be in the lower to mid-30s.
Tuesday
Behind the cold front, Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid 40s. Lows will return to the mid to upper 20s. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy, but dry conditions.
Wednesday
The chance for snow showers will return on Wednesday with highs in the mid 30s.
