After a mild Sunday with the appearance of sunshine, rain will move into Metro Detroit overnight.
Sunday evening will be comfortable with light winds and increasing clouds. Evening temperatures will be in the 40s. A few showers will start to move into Southeast Michigan after 2 a.m. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. Nighttime winds will be out of the south-southeast at 4 to 8 mph.
Monday
Widespread rain will push into the region from the southwest before dawn. The rain will first arrive in communities south of I-94, such as Adrian and Monroe. Then, the rain will reach Detroit and continue northward. Plan for the Monday morning commute to be wet.
Most of the rain will exit the region by noon as a cold front sweeps across the state. A couple of showers will linger into the early afternoon. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with highs around 50 degrees. Metro Detroit’s average high for Dec. 9 is 39 degrees. Southwesterly winds will be 8 to 16 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Monday night, it will be mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 30s.
Tuesday
Under mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will fall slightly as a cooler air mass slides over the Great Lakes on Tuesday. Highs will be in the lower to mid 40s.
The dry weather could come to an end with the chance of rain and snow showers late Tuesday night. Lows will be in the mid 20s to 30 degrees.
Wednesday
The chance for precipitation will increase for Wednesday. Snow showers will return with highs in the mid 30s. Lows will be in the lower to mid 20s.
Snow showers on Wednesday night could result in slippery road conditions. Lows in the teens will make salt less effective.
Thursday
A few snow showers will continue into Thursday. It will be sharply colder and windy. Highs will only reach the mid 20s. Wind chills will be as low as the single digits. Actual lows will be in the teens.
Temperatures will begin to moderate on Friday, and highs will return to above freezing next weekend.
