Be careful as you step outside this morning. If you didn’t lay salt down yesterday and allowed Mother Nature to melt the icy glaze, that has likely iced over again overnight.
Roads are in good condition, but your driveway and sidewalk could be an ice rink due to the re-freeze. Otherwise, gusty winds diminish this morning but we are starting the day with wind chills in the single digits. Highs today will only reach the upper 20s with partly cloudy skies.
Accumulating snow is expected on Saturday afternoon and evening with the highest potential to exceed 3 inches north of I-69 into the Thumb. A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Saturday evening due to the potential for accumulating snow, however snowfall totals are highly dependent on where you live. Here is why:
There are two systems that merge close to Metro Detroit. South of the Ohio state line, there will likely be a wintry mix and rain, whereas along and north of I-69 will be snow with higher rates. There could be a band of lesser snowfall amounts in between where these systems connect. With that said, I will say as of this writing, the area between I-94 to I-69 is still that questionable sector for snowfall totals. For now, we can generically say amounts will range between 1 to 3 inches south of I-69.
Next Week
A colder, winter pattern will keep high temperatures below average, mainly in the 20s. We are keeping an eye on additional chances for snow by the middle of next week.
