A Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.
Snowfall totals of 4 to 7 inches will be possible with light icing possible south of I-94, especially for Monroe County. We will keep fine-tuning as a 40 mile shift in the Low Pressure will make a huge difference in precipitation type for our southern communities.
Tuesday
Some flurries are possible today with seasonably cold conditions, with highs around 30. Expect a mix of sun and clouds.
Wednesday
A Winter Storm Watch was expanded this morning to include all of Southeast Michigan starting Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. This watch precedes advisories and warning.
Our region will likely be upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory within the next 24 hours, if not a Winter Storm Warning as the snowfall projections put us close to that criteria.
How much snow?
Models as of this writing are keeping us in the 4 to 7 inch range, although snowfall amounts will be sensitive to trends in the forecast track of the system.
Snow could start as early as 3 p.m. or so, but the more impactful, heavier snow will push through between the 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. timeframe. Expect heavier amounts north of M-59 and possibly lower amounts closer to the Ohio state line due to the threat of a wintry mix cutting in on totals.
Rest of the Week
Surface high pressure will lead to quiet weather for much of Thursday and Friday.
This Weekend
Another chance for snow arrives on Saturday.
Next Week
Reinforcement of below average temperatures builds in early next week with single digit lows.
