Wind chills drop below zero in Metro Detroit, when to expect snow this week

DETROIT – After a snowy weekend, now the arctic air returns. It’s a cold start to the morning with wind chills in the low single digits to below zero. And if you think that is cold, it will be even colder Tuesday morning with wind chills falling to 10 below zero, if not colder.

Additional lake effect snow showers are pushing through early this morning and are expected to redevelop this afternoon with highly variable accumulations to around a half inch possible.

Drier weather settles in Tuesday and early Wednesday with highs only in the teens, close to 20.

Snow this week

Our next chance for widespread snow arrives Wednesday night into Thursday morning with well below average temperatures holding through late week. It’s a slow, but gradual warm-up to around 30 by Sunday. Average highs this time of year are mid to upper 30s.
