Climbing out of the deep freeze in Metro Detroit with snow coming Wednesday night -- What to expect

Air so cold it hurts

DETROIT – Waking up to another brutally cold morning, but slightly better than yesterday.

Wind chills are as low as -15. However, we are slowly climbing out of the deep freeze but when feels like temperatures fall below zero that air is so cold that it hurts.

More clouds today with highs close to 20. That is about 15 degrees below average.

What to expect in incoming snow

Snow chances return tonight into early Thursday. This system will lack moisture leading to accumulations of only an inch or less. However, it could be just enough to slow down the Thursday morning commute, so plan for a little extra time and use caution on your sidewalk and driveway.

Rest of the week

High temperatures remain below average with a slow warm-up through the remainder of the week. Daytime highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the 20s. A wedge of warmer air may arrive Sunday bringing the opportunity for daytime highs to climb closer to average, just above freezing.
