4Warn Weather – Most of us are waking up on Sunday to a few rain showers moving through the region, but we will get a break from the rain before the chance of strong to severe thunderstorms moves into the region by the afternoon and evening hours.
A strong low pressure system will move through the region Sunday afternoon to Sunday evening, and this will bring the threat of strongest severe thunderstorms to the entire region. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire region under a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) on our severe weather scale for Sunday, with the exception of Southwestern Lenawee County being under an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) on our severe weather scale.
We are expecting showers and thunderstorms to develop after 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday and last into the evening hours. All modes of severe weather will be possible, damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall will be the primary threats. But I cannot rule out an isolated tornado Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. High temperatures remaining on seasonably warm into the upper 60s to right around 70 degrees by Sunday afternoon.
We will keep the chance of a few rain showers into the forecast early on Monday, but most of the day looks to be dry. We will also keep the cloud cover around for most of the day as well as cold air moves in early next week on Monday. High temperatures into the upper 40s on Monday, will fall into the upper 20s overnight Monday night early on Tuesday morning.
While dry weather moves into the region on Tuesday, another drastic warm-up moves into the region by Wednesday with another round of showers and thunderstorms possible. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a risk of severe weather yet again for the middle of next week, where we could do another round of severe thunderstorms moving through the region. High temperatures heading for the low 60s by Wednesday afternoon.
Rain showers stick around the forecast for Thursday before it does look like we dry things out by the end of the week on Friday for the Detroit Tigers Home Opener at Comerica Park. High temperatures into the middle to upper 50s by the end of the week on Friday.
