DETROIT – Portions of Southeast Michigan are now under a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Thursday.
Snow total accumulations between 3-6 inches are expected for locations under the advisory. Additionally, around and south of I-94 may see a wintry mix including freezing rain and or sleet, which could lead to a light glaze of ice accumulations.
A mix will cut down on totals in our southern communities that could see as low as 2 inches or if it remains more snow and less than a mix, than upward of 4 inches. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Macomb, Sanilac and St. Clair counties where 6 to 8″ of snow is expected through tonight with the heaviest snow from late afternoon to late evening.
The Timeline
Snow could start as early as 3 p.m. or so, but the more impactful, heavier snow will push through between the 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. timeframe. Expect heavier amounts north of M-59 and possibly lower amounts closer to the Ohio state line due to the threat of a wintry mix cutting in on totals.
Rest of the Week
Surface high pressure will lead to quiet weather for much of Thursday afternoon and Friday.
This Weekend
Another round of accumulating snow is likely from Friday night into this weekend. Snow may be heavy at times.
Next Week
Reinforcement of below average temperatures builds in early next week with single digit lows and highs in the teens.
