Southeast Michigan under a wind advisory for most of the day

A warm and windy end to the work week

DETROIT – It’s going to be a warm and windy end to the work week with a cold weekend ahead.

A period of light snow late this morning will be possible mainly north of I-69. Winds pick up and we turn mild by midday today with gusts around 45 mph in the afternoon and early evening.

The wind, however, will push in a warmer air mass with highs in the low 50s today. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gusts between 30-40 mph continue through tonight. Highs will be in the low 50s today across Metro Detroit.

A spotty sprinkle or two can’t be ruled out this afternoon and evening as a cold front sweeps through the region.

This weekend

We flip the calendar to March on Saturday which also marks the first day of Meteorological Spring. However, it will feel more like January this weekend in the wake of a cold front with highs on either side of 30 and wind chills dropping into the single digits.

As temps slide, lake effect snow showers will be possible tonight into Saturday morning in the Thumb. Overall, breezy and cold Saturday with highs in the 20s and 20-30 mph gusts will make it feel in the single digits. Only slightly warmer Sunday, highs around freezing, but less breezy.

Next week

We expect a seasonal start to next week with highs in the upper 30s, close to 40 on Monday. We gradually warm back up with highs approaching the low to mid-50s again midweek as rain chances return.
